Skin Series

Where is inspiration coming from? Keyee found an interesting answer from her second series, The Skin: Illusion + Subconscious.

One day during the time when she was working on “She is Waiting...”, Keyee got tired and sat back from her work. Her arms were sore. Her eyes were blurred. She turned her head and there she saw her leather bag on a chair, twisting like a thick piece of skin. She was attracted by the way the bag had swelled and deflated, and examined how it had creased and expanded. An idea silently surfaced in her mind: Skin Dwelling. She realized that she had found a way to express something she had in mind for a very long time.

The “Skin”, or “Skin Dwelling”, contains a Buddhist meaning to Keyee. It delivers visually the image that our beloved body is merely borrowed on a short-term basis instead of permanent existence. When this temporary body is destined to be destroyed, how much is real? How much is an illusion?

Keyee chose to patinate her skin series with bright and eye-catching colors and patterns. The multi-colored series was meant to please and attract the eyes of viewers. The beautiful skins try to remind us how we are attracted and attached to our skin dwelling.
